Norway's Surprising Curling Victory over Canada | Day -1 | Winter Olympics 2018 | PyeongChang

Canada and Norway met in their first round robin match of the mixed doubles Curling. Canada's Kaitlyn Lawes and her team mate John Morris both won curling Gold in the Team event at the 2014 Sochi Games, and so were expected to challenge for a medal. But, their opponents Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten showed early on that they would be difficult to beat. Norway went into the final end with a one-point lead, but Canada had the hammer. Skaslien's last delivery saw two of their stones stop close to each other in the centre of the house, making it extremely difficult for their opponents to remove them. Lawes throw didn't make enough contact with her own stone to knock it into the button, which gave Norway two points and a surprise victory. It ended Canada 6, Norway 9. SYNCHRONISED 3m SPRINGBOARD MEN'S - FINAL - European Championships - Glasgow - 10th August 2018

Jack Laugher's chance to re-create his Commonwealth Games Triple Crown Gold were dashed by just 0.54 of a point to Russia's dream team of Ilia Zakharov and Evgenii Kuznetsov. Russia outperformed Great Britain's Laugher-Mears first two dives until a poor execution of the Back 3 - 1/2 Somersaults in Russia's third dive. The final dive saw Russia lead the diving with a great performance while the Laugher-Mears team lacked precision in their execution of the Forward 4-1/2 Somersaults which cost them dearly. Germany's Patrick Hausding and Lars Ruediger took bronze despite 29 year old Hausding complaining of aches and pains affecting his performance.
