Vasyl Lomachenko aka “Hi-Tech” defends his WBO Super Featherweight Crown for the 2nd time, taking on former WBA World Super Featherweight Champion Jason Sosa. Prefight records; Lomachenko 7(5)-1, Sosa 20(15)-1-4. In his previous fight, Sosa successfully made his 1st and only defense as the WBA Champion against Britain’s Stephen Smith via UD12. On the other hand, Lomachenko dominated hard hitting Nicholas Walters en route to an RTD9 to retain his WBO strap. As with all of Lomachenko’s wins, he once again in a dazzling performance dominated Sosa with ease en route to Sosa’s corner stopping the fight after 9 one sided rounds where Vasyl outlanded Sosa by over 200 total punches, and Sosa did not have one significant moment the entire bout. Interestingly, Lomachenko’s fellow Ukrainians Oleksandr Usyk and Oleksandr Gvozdyk also won their fights in the same night; Usyk retained his WBO World Cruiserweight Title with a UD12 over Michael Hunter while Gvozdyk beat Yunieski Gonzalez via TKO3 to win the vacant NABO Light Heavyweight Title while successfully defended his NABF Light Heavyweight Title as well. Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko takes on Nicholas “Axe-Man” Walters as Lomachenko makes the 1st defense of his WBO World Super Featherweight title which he won 5 months ago by blowing out Roman Martinez with a beautiful combination. Going into the fight, Lomachenko and Walters had records of 6(4)-1 and 26(21)-0-1. In November 2015, he takes on “El Canito” Jason Sosa in a non title bout. Despite the fact that Walters dominated the entire bout, winning just about every round the outcome was a highly controversial draw. Max Kellerman and Dan Rafael both scored it 100-90 and Harold Lederman had it 99-9 for the Axe-Man. Walters’ next bout would be against the Ukrainian superstar Vasyl Lomachenko. In June 2014, Lomachenko outpointed Gary Russell Jr. to win the vacant WBO World Featherweight title and made history by tying with Saensak Muangsurin; winning a world title in his 3rd professional bout. From November 2014 to 2015, Lomachenko defended the title 3 times against Suriya Tatakhun, Gamalier Rodriguez and Romulo Koasicha. In June 2016, Vasyl challenges Roman Martinez for the WBO World Super Featherweight Championship; he dominated Martinez through the 1st four rounds before finishing him a spectacular 2 punch combination in the 5th round. With this win, Lomachenko becomes World Champion in 2 weight classes in only 7 professional fights. His 1st defense would be against the undefeated knockout artist Nicholas Walters. In a dazzling performance, Lomachenko dominated Walters through 7 rounds. At the end of the 7th, Walters returned to his corner and walked up to referee Toney Weeks and twice expressed his desire to discontinue resulting in an RTD7 win for Lomachenko.
