GCN Goes Bikepacking In The Atlas Mountains, Morocco

For a first taste of bikepacking, Si's certainly not gone in steady - with an epic 4 day trip from Morocco's capital of Marrakesh to the high Atlas Mountains. And who better to show him the ropes than former Transcontinental Race winner and bikepacking enthusiast Josh Ibbett. It's 6.30am in a remote, rocky location in the High Atlas Mountains, Simon Richardson is waking up from his first ever Bivvy. That's right, a whole lot of chamois time for the former pro cyclist who has often professed his disliking of 'touring'. Will the experience change Si's mind? Thankfully experienced bikepacker Josh Ibbett is on hand talk and show Si through how to handle the trip when it gets remote! Map tiles by Stamen Design, under CC BY 3.0. SICK PUPPY ENDURO BASH Cross Training Enduro Skills

Thrills, chills and spills, it's the Sick Puppy Enduro Bash. When it comes to technical riding, we have been talking the talk for a long time, so we decided it was time to walk the walk on one of our favourite private properties. A whole day of tight single track connecting a pile of technical challenges. The result? Plenty of spills, even when we weren't on our bikes. How did this come about? Ben has clocking up a ridiculous number of hours on his RR300 and most of it has been practising the dodgy techniques from our highly unreliable training vids. Surprisingly, this has not made him a worse rider - in fact he's improving so fast he's thinking about doing two of Australia's hard enduros this year... the Insane Ride in Tasmania and Wildwood Rock later in the year. Cross Training Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJAvmhgP0h1AEKY8vTEJPJg Cross Training Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cross.training.enduro.skills/?ref=ts Our enduro vlog series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlur54ugvzNJlUO0y6D10jVOGMLI4Raci Cross Training website: http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Like to support our vids? http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com/cross-training-support-donations.htm So he picked out this course that is consistently much harder than our usual rides, warned us we may need an extra large set of gonads, and said that only sick puppies need apply. We may not be able to ride, but we are definitely sick puppies so we all said shit yeah! You may remember a training vid we did about learning how to dismount at low speed instead of crashing. It was awesome to see quite a few of the guys knew when they wouldn't make it up a tough climb and just calmly stepped off the bike instead of that last attempt to twist the throttle and flip the bike. This saves energy, reduces injuries, and avoids wrecking your bike. The second thing I noticed was how they reacted when they were stuck. One of our vids covered a pile of traction techniques when stuck, such as rocking the bike, bouncing on the seat, maximising run up, and even standing on the seat. Occasionally we would feel a bit overwhelmed and resort to revs and useless wheelspin (me included) but overall it was great to see these traction tips are becoming second nature for us. And of course this saves so much energy, making the bike do the work instead of trying to wrestle it out of tight spots. Talking about conserving energy, the guys did a great job here too. We knew it was going to be a long and tiring day so everyone seemed to be sitting or standing on the pegs at the right times to avoid getting too tired. This was my main focus for the day - I was just back from a month in southeast Asia and was sick for much of it, so I'd had no exercise or dirt riding for five weeks and the dodgy knee was playing up again. So I sat when I could, stood up for the tough bits, paced myself and used all those traction tips to make the bike do most of the work, not me. Somehow I got through most of the day, but just watched the guys on the last technical section as fatigue, cramps and a swollen knee set in. Some of you might remember parts of this track from the recent shagged knobby rides. I finally put on a new set of Goldentyres, with a GT333 that a lot of the local riders have been raving about. Combined with the TUbliss system at 3psi the traction is incredible but sadly it means one less excuse now. When I don't make it up these slippery climbs, it's definitely rider error now lol. This is just a quick summary of the day, I filmed so much I'll probably break this into four 10 minute episodes for supporters. It seems we are all sick puppies as we can't wait to do the same ride again soon. And it's early days yet, but I'll chat with Ben and see if I can rig him up with a helmet cam if he does those hard enduros later this year, we'd love to share that with you if possible. Cheers guys!

Inside the 2018 Dirty Kanza 200 Gravel Race inc. Jens Voigt & Sven Nys! - Emporia, Kansas, USA

June 2nd, 2018 marked the 13th running of Dirty Kanza 200, arguably the world's most famous gravel race! Despite tough conditions with a thunderstorm delaying the race start by 30 minutes, and a headwind facing riders on the return leg, the course record was broken, by none other than Ted King (he won too). Meanwhile, in realms of the mid-pack or beyond, JOM and K-Dogg of the Gravel Cyclist crew tackled the event, this video is their perspective. Will JOM make it 3 for 3 at DK200 and will K-Dogg finish his second Dirty Kanza 200? With riders such as Sven Nys and Jens Voigt lining up for this race, you could say Dirty Kanza has grown in popularity! Audio is best enjoyed with headphones.
